About L&AP
Founded in 1988 by Jim Lang and Mary Ackroyd (Lang) we have built our reputation for innovative and effective educational resources on three key principles:
Rigorous attention to content. To ensure their effectiveness, our resources are developed in close cooperation with the educators, practitioners, facilitators and targeted users for whom they are designed. Our academic and educational experience help ensure that our resources complement and support curricula in all Canadian jurisdictions. With few exceptions all our large-scale productions have been produced in both official languages. Our writing credits include dozens of teacher/facilitators’ guides, numerous websites and three published books in current international release.
Innovative production techniques. By harnessing the powers of innovative technology we can deliver to broadcast standards at lower overall costs. By teaming experienced senior producers with young crews we can tap the creative energy of youth while ensuring that our production values remain high and costs are carefully controlled. Our unique approach to large-scale production allows us to field multiple production teams simultaneously anywhere in Canada. In 2002 we produced, edited, and delivered 120, five-minute documentary videos in both official languages in five months, from start to finish.
Long shelf life. The longer a resource remains useful and effective the lower the costs for our clients. To ensure our resources have ‘legs’ they are carefully screened and adjusted for content that can unnecessarily date them. They are then evaluated by end-users and the data gathered is incorporated into revisions and new productions. One of our first resources, the six-part video series, The Spirit of Adventure, remains in regular use around the world today, sixteen years after it was produced.
